Maharashtra athlete Anjana Thamake, who won a gold at the just concluded Asian Youth Games in Nanjing, China, was felicitated by Tribal Development Minister Madhukar Pichad on Friday.
Pichad feted Thamake at a function organised at the Tribal Development Corporation hall here. Her coach Vijendra Singh, Minister of State Rajendra Gavit, Director of Nashik Tribal Development Corporation Sambhaji Sarkunde, Principal Secretary (Tribal) Department Mukesh Khullar, among others, were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Pichad said the Government has decided to set up a sports academy at Bhavali in tribal- dominated Igatpuri tehsil of this district, about 200km from Mumbai.
Estimated to cost Rs 45 crore, the academy will groom tribals and other athletes in various disciplines, he said.
Anjana, who bagged the gold medal in girl's 800m race in the track and fields event, will be felicitated by the State Government on September 5.
