Defending champions Amittrajit Ghosh and Ashwin Naik emerged as the 2013 overall champions after winning the IMG K-1000 Rally. But, Gaurav Gill (co-driver Musa Sherif) was the star of the K-1000 after recording the fastest overall time. Ghosh timed a total of one hour, 34 minutes, 46.6 seconds, while Gill recorded 1:30:56.3.
There was very little pressure on Ghosh, driving a Mitsubishi Cedia, as he held the overnight lead. He also needed to finish just fourth to wrap up the title before the last round of the Indian National Rally Championship in Chikmagalur next month. It all ended well for him.
Just three stages (six to nine) were run on Sunday but it was a chance to see some real spectacular, high-speed rallying. Gill, driving an XUV500 for the Mahindra team, was in supreme form and unleashed his best on the stages.
In the 1600cc class, Aroor Arjun Rao (Satish Rajgopal), who was second behind Phalguna Urs (Anoop Kumar DS) on Saturday, came up with the goods and won by a slender margin of 1.4 seconds.
In the Junior INRC class, Suhem MK and navigator Jeevarathinam came first followed by Aroor Viram Rao and co-driver Somayya AG. Rohan Pawar and Arjun Mehta finished third while Championship leader Asad Khan and co-driver Zayne Asrar could manage only a sixth place.
