A comparison with Alex Ferguson's 'Fledglings' of the 1980s and the 1990s would be over the top, but there's no denying that Sunil Gavaskar has a fantastic eye for talent.

Less than two years after taking little Prithvi Shaw under his wing, the batting great has signed another sensational Mumbai youngster in Sarfaraz Khan.

The Professional Management Group (PMG), which is co-owned by the former India skipper, has entered into a three-year commercial contract with the 17-year-old right-hander. dna can confirm that the deal is worth somewhere between Rs 1.5 crore to Rs 2 crore.

Sarfaraz, who shot into the limelight by breaking and setting plenty of records in school cricket, made his first-class, List A and Twenty20 debut for Mumbai last year. He also managed to a secure a Rs 50-lakh deal with the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

In the IPL, he set the stage on fire with an enterprising cameo against the Rajasthan Royals, leaving the likes of Shane Watson and Brad Hogg dumbstruck during an unbeaten 45-run knock off just 21 balls. Earlier this week, Sarfaraz announced that he was leaving Mumbai for Uttar Pradesh, his home state, for better opportunities.

"I am delighted that my son has signed with Sunil Gavaskar sir," a proud Naushad Khan said. "Gavaskar has assured Sarfaraz of all help — from agreeing to fine-tune his technique to renting a ground for special training sessions. Nobody can guide my son better than Gavaskar, whose batsmanship needs no introduction," Naushad added.

"I am very happy to sign for PMG," Sarfaraz said. "To be associated with a company run by one of India's greatest ever cricketers in Sunil Gavaskar will surely help me take my career to the next step," he added.

Gavaskar has been a fan of Sarfaraz ever since he scored that 439-run knock for Rizvi Springfield School in the 2009 Harris Shield. "Back then, Gavaskar told Sarfaraz to eat well, sleep well and bat well. Six years on, his message is the same. He has advised Sarfaraz to focus on his game and nothing else. He explained to him that the only 'currency' he must be concerned about right now is runs. All his commercial deals will be taken care of by PMG. Gavaskar will also mentor and counsel him," Naushad revealed.

Over the years, PMG has represented Virender Sehwag, Manoj Tiwary and Varun Aaron among others.
