Michael Ballack is of the opinion that Bastian Schweinsteiger should retire from International football, given his his performance and multiple injuries this season.

In a column for Germany's Express, Ballack, Schweinsteiger's former team member, said that the Manchester United midfielder should consider 'withdrawing' from international football after his not-so-great performance at Euro 2016 where they lost the semi-final against hosts France.

The 31-year-old midfielder has been under criticism for his performance after he was transferred to Manchester United this season from Bayern Munchen. Despite his injuries and depleting performances, he was chosen in Germany's squad for Euro 2016. Keeping physical fitness in mind, Ballack wrote that he feels this is a good time for Schweinsteiger to retire as he could leave with respect having won Brazil the World Cup in 2014.

Ballack wrote, "I know that he is brutally ambitious. But, when you've seen him in the past two years, you also have to honestly say that I'm worried about his physical condition after his many injuries." Ballack played for the national team till June 2011 and was also Schweinsteiger's teammate in Bayern, before moving to Chelsea in May 2006.

Ballack shared his worries and said that if his former teammate is not careful, he might end up in a vortex. He feels that the German is under pressure to survive in Manchester United and it will be worse if he is also included in the squad for Russia World Cup 2018. Respecting his ambition, Ballack said that a constant poor performance is bound to put a dent on his image as a footballer and would also lead to teammates questioning his ability in the long run.

Schweinsteiger has not started a single game for Manchester United since January when he played against Sheffield United in the FA Cup.
