A South African court on Thursday heard that former Paralympics runner Oscar Pistorius struck his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp with a cricket bat before murdering her.

The 29-year-old claimed that he accidently killed his girlfriend after mistaking her for an intruder in his toilet, adding that he then battered the door down using the bat, the Mirror reported.

But the new forensic investigation carried out by expert brothers Calvin and Thomas Mollett claimed that two injuries on the model's back match the tip of the bat, pointing out that a tussle between the couple took place during that time.

Meanwhile, the judge remained adamant that the double-amputee athlete had an intention to kill Steenkamp during the row and that he is due to be sentenced in June.

Earlier in December, Pistorius was found guilty of murder after the Supreme Court overturned his previous culpable homicide conviction following the state's successful attempt in challenging the verdict.

Pistorius, known as the Blade Runner, was released on parole in October 2015 and has been placed under house arrest since then at his uncle's house after serving almost a year in prison of his five-year sentence.

According to the South African law, the minimum sentence for murder is 15 years in prison.
