The All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Praful Patel had a foot in mouth moment on Thursday, when he tweeted the incorrect name of the tournament in which India were taking on Laos on Thursday.
"India gears up to face Laos in the World Cup Qualifiers today. Expecting a spirited performance from the boys. #AIFF #IndianFootball," Patel tweeted late on Wednesday night.
However, the Blue Tigers were playing Asian Cup qualifiers, and not World Cup qualifiers. More embarrassingly for Patel, India have already crashed out of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, finishing last in their qualifying group after losing 1-2 to Turkmenistan in the last qualifier in Kochi on March 29.
Not surprsingly, Twitterati was quick to spot the mistake, ridiculing the former aviation minister.
"President and Making such mistake? Our world cup qualifier ended long back, Wake up Mr. President. Its Asian Cup qualifier," wrote a user.
Another user said the tweet mirrors the condition of Indian football. "@praful_patel ha ha ha! that tweet tells the condition of #IndianFootball. Now you can see in whose hands #IndianFootball is!"
