A new survey has revealed that football players born in the Merseyside area of England are more likely to earn a spot in the England squad.

A new survey has revealed that football players born in the Merseyside area of England are more likely to earn a spot in the England squad.

Famous Premier League clubs like Everton and Liverpool are based in the Merseyside area, and according to the survey, one in 58,000 people from the Liverpool area gets a chance to play for England.

Merseyside has produced some of the finest players for England like striker Wayne Rooney and midfielder Steven Gerrard.

Greater London comes second, with one in 92,000 winning fame. David Beckham and Bobby Moore being the best-known examples from the area.

Players born in Co Durham and Nottingham shire are next on the list of most likely to play for England.

Players from Durham such as Colin Todd and Barry Venison are more likely to be defenders.

While from Nottingham are born strikers, like Tony Woodcock.

"Merseyside has produced talented players for many years," The Sun quoted Manchester-born World Cup winner Sir Geoff Hurst, as saying.

The Football Association along with McDonalds studied the origins of every England star since 1966.
