Former Premier League striker Delroy Facey has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison after being found guilty of match fixing allegations.

Facey, who played for Bolton Wanderers, West Bromwich Albion and Hull City, was convicted of conspiring to bribe non-league players in a match-fixing plot.

Describing Facey's offence as a 'cancer at the very heart of football', Judge Mary Stacey told the former striker that it was about the fans of the teams involved, the families who follow the fortunes of their teams with passion, loyalty and devotion, adding that he had betrayed all that trust and confidence, the BBC reported.

In addition to Facey's punishment, former non-league player Moses Swaibu of Tooley Street was sentenced to 16 months in jail after being found guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery.
