Five footballers to be picked for Munich stint

Like last year, five teenagers will be selected from the Bajaj Allianz Junior Football Camp for a training stint in Munich next month. The five selected will receive scholarships under the Youth Development Programme of premier club, Mohun Bagan.

Besides, cash prizes worth Rs75,000 are to be won in the zonal finale.

The Bajaj Allianz camp began on June 20 and will end on July 13. More than 800 schools from about 120 cities across the country are participating in the programme.

In Mumbai, 2,000 students from the city’s top 50 schools will be screened and a final will be held on July 13. Two Mumbai teams will play two outfits from Pune to zero in on the talented youngster from West Zone for the Europe trip. Likewise, four others from the rest of the country will be selected.

The selection panel for West Zone comprises Arjuna Awardee and former goalkeeper Brahmanand Sankhwalkar and Japan’s Arata Izumi.

The selected five will join teenagers in the age group of 14-16 years from all over the world in the international camp organised by Allianz, the official partners of FC Bayern Munich. It provides the youngsters a chance to train and meet legendary Munic coaches and also attend a match and meet the club’s stars.
