Dubbed ‘The Phenomenon’, Ronaldo is one of three players (Zinedine Zidane and Lionel Messi are the others) to have won the FIFA World Player of the Year on three occasions (1996, 1997, 2002). At 17, he was a part of the Brazilian squad that won the 1994 FIFA World Cup, However, he didn’t make an appearance. At the 1998 World Cup, he helped Brazil reach the final. He was awarded the ‘Golden Ball’ for being the ‘Player of the Tournament’. Four years later, he powered Brazil to glory in South Korea and Japan. He scored both goals in Brazil’s win over Germany. And with eight goals to his name, he was awarded the ‘Golden Boot’. During the 2006 World Cup, Ronaldo became the highest goalscorer in WC history with his 15th goal, surpassing Gerd Muller’s record of 14.
