FIFA to vote on whether to release report on alleged World Cup corruption bidding

FIFA has decided to go for voting to determine whether to publicaly release probing reports into the long-standing allegations of corruption surrounding the bidding process for 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Earlier, FIFA boss Sepp Blatter stated that publishing the report would violate not only its own rules and regulations, but also Swiss privacy laws. However, it is reportedly revealed that an edited version of the report could be made public under a proposed amendment to FIFA's ethics code.

Theo Zwanziger, a FIFA executive committee member, has called for an amendment of the Article 36 of FIFA's ethics code that currently rules out publishing reports, the BBC reported.

The voting will take place next week in Marrakesh, Morroco. Based on the findings of Michael Garcia's investigation, FIFA had acquitted Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022 respectively from charges of corruption.
