A bomb threat has been received at the ongoing FIFA Congress in Zurich. The Swiss police have confirmed the threat to local news channels.

According to SRF News,  authorities were alerted at around 11 am local time. Local journalists were forced to leave their places at the venue.

Swiss police are investigating a bomb threat at the FIFA congress, a spokeswoman said on Friday.

"I can confirm there has been a bomb threat against the FIFA congress, officers have been dispatched" the spokeswoman for the city police said.

The FIFA presidential election is set to take place on Friday, amid corruption investigations into organisation's officials. There are also calls for current president Sepp Blatter to step down from his post.
