The much vaunted Indian Soccer League(ISL) got an even bigger dose of star power on Thursday when it was confirmed that Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan would become the co-owner of franchise team FC Pune City.

Hrithik's association with the club was announced at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai where the superstar became the latest celebrity to join the football bandwagon.

Interestingly, prior to Hrithik,it was Salman Khan who was touted to be the club's co-owner, reports of which were denied by him on Twitter.

Hrithik, who hopes that the upcoming ISL will improve Indian football as a whole, had this to say: "I am honoured to be associated with the ISL, which represents India’s first effort at professional football. It is definitely the next big sporting brand in our country and will give young football talent a solid platform. I hope my partnership with FC Pune City adds further strength to the team and star players’ football expertise."

FC Pune City CEO,Gaurav Modwel elaborated Hrithik's association with the franchise by saying:"We are extremely pleased to have Hrithik Roshan as a co-owner of FC Pune City. He is a youth icon and his association with FC Pune City will give us a huge impetus in connecting with the youth. With the ISL, we want to make football a household name and the star power of Hrithik will help us drawing audiences across categories."

FC Pune City, who have former France striker David Trezeguet as their marquee player, have Franco Colomba as their coach and will kickstart their ISL campaign with an away game against the Delhi Dynamos on October 14.
