Fans across the country erupted in a spectacular display of joy as India recorded a 76-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in their first World Cup match played at the Adelaide Oval in Australia on Sunday.

Fans across the country erupted in a spectacular display of joy as India recorded a 76-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan in their first World Cup match played at the Adelaide Oval in Australia on Sunday.

Enthusiastic fans took to the streets and lit firecrackers as India kept their record of never losing to Pakistan in a World Cup tournament intact.

Young cricket fans in Mumbai danced their way to India's victory while people in Jaipur shouted slogans to express their delight over the result.


Summing up the mood of fans everywhere, a fan from Jaipur said, "India hasn't won from Pakistan, India has actually won the World Cup."

Star batsman Virat Kohli's splendid ton helped India put up a 301-run target for Misbah-ul Haq's men today.

Kohli, who was declared Man of the Match, put up a 129 run second-wicket partnership with opener Shikhar Dhawan, who scored his individual 73, then went on to put up a third-wicket partnership of 110 runs Suresh Raina, who hit 74 runs off 56 deliveries that included five fours and three sixes.
