European giants FC Bayern Munich to provide free meals, German classes for Syrian refugees

German football's richest club FC Bayern Munich has taken a decision to set up 'training camps' for the children and adolescent refugees from Syria, providing them with free meals and German classes.

German football's richest club FC Bayern Munich has taken a decision to set up 'training camps' for the children and adolescent refugees from Syria, providing them with free meals and German classes.

The Bundesliga champions have stated that it's their 'social responsibility' to help the people suffering through the crisis caused by Europe's greatest post-war migration. FC Bayern Munich's president Karl Heinz Rummenigge said, "We at FC Bayern consider it our socio-political responsibility to help displaced and needy children, women and men, supporting and assisting them in Germany.” The club has also decided to donate €1 million to the refugee projects - Evening Standard.

Bavarian interior minister Joachim Herrmann is pleased with the club plans to help refugees, stating, “This is a wonderful and exemplary programme which I fully welcome and support – another magnificent example of the willingness to help and welcoming culture in our country.” Mayor of Munich Dieter Reiter commented, “FC Bayern is laying down an important marker and I am delighted with the club’s significant commitment. I have consequently also gladly pledged the support of the city of Munich.” - FC Bayern Munich's official web site.

That club has also stated that prior to their upcoming home game against FC Augsburg on September 12, the FC Bayern Munich players will emerge from the tunnel holding hands of one German child on one side and a refugee child on the other side in order to symbolise the relationship between the two communities, said the Daily Mail.
