Tottenham Hotspur increased their chances of reaching next season's Europa League as they beat Newcastle United 3-1 in their Premier League encounter on Sunday

Hosts Newcastle were hampered by a supporter boycott, which resulted in their lowest crowd of the season, and they went behind to Nacer Chadli's 25-yard shot at the half-hour mark. However, Jack Colback scored just after half-time to level the score at 1-1.

But, Tottenham denied Newcastle any further chances to score and again took the lead with Cristian Eriksen's free-kick before Harry Kane scored his 30th goal for the club just as the match ended, the BBC reported.

Tottenham moved into the sixth spot with the win, while Newcastle suffered a sixth straight defeat and that worrying sequence equals Newcastle's worst run of results in the Premier League as they remain seven points above the relegation zone.

Newcastle boss John Carver said on the protests that it shouldn't affect the players, as when one crosses the line one should be focused on getting a result so what goes on around them should not matter that much. He added that they have experienced this before and they had to do it again.
