United all but confirm Champions League football next season

Manchester United all but sealed their place in the Champions League next season, after their crucial 2-1 win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Juan Mata's penalty early on in the first half and Marouane Fellaini's neat header in the 80th minute, earned United a much needed 3 points, that puts them 6 points clear of fifth placed Liverpool in the race for the top 4.

Ashley Young's cross into the box in the 17th minute of the match met the shoulder of Palace defender, who seemed to lean into the ball. Referee Michael Oliver had a clear vision of the incident and pointed to the spot for a Manchester United penalty.

Mata stepped up to take the penalty ahead of skipper Wayne Rooney and did not disappoint, as the Spaniard tucked the ball into the bottom right corner of Palace keeper Julian Speroni's net in the 19th minute.

Jason Puncheon pulled one back for the Londoners, as his curling freekick beat the United wall and into David De Gea's net in the 56th minute.

United broke away with pace against the run of play, with Young running down the right flank. His pin-point cross to Fellaini inside the box, saw the Belgian neatly head the ball into the back of the net in the 80th minute of the match.

Fellaini's goal ensured all three points for United, who have all but sealed Champions League next season.

Liverpool out of Champions League contention

Chelsea faced Liverpool in a repeat of last season's crunch clash, that saw the Reds slip in their title charge as they lost to a resilient Chelsea side.

But the Merseyside still couldn't get the better Jose Mourinho's men, as the two teams shared the spoils with a scoreline of 1-1.

John Terry opened the scoring for the Blues, as the Chelsea skipper headed in from just outside the six yard box from Cesc Fabregas' corner kick, in the fifth minute of the match.

Terry's goal was his 39th goal in the Premier League and put him at the summit of the all time Premier League defender's scorer's list.

Steven Gerrard who received a hostile reception at Stamford Bridge, silenced the crown when he headed in from close range to equalise for the Reds from Jordan Henderson's free kick, just before the half-time whistle.

Liverpool had the majority of possession in the second half, but couldn't add the finishing touch as the two teams shared the spoils at the end of 90 minutes.

Barring a miracle, Liverpool are all but out of Champions League contention next season, as the draw to Chelsea put them six points adrift of Manchester United who require just a point to confirm their bid for Champions League football next season.

City smash six past sorry QPR

QPR travelled to the Etihad Stadium in a repeat of the historic tie that saw Sergio Aguero net the winner for Manchester City in the 94th minute of the match, that saw them steal the title away from Manchester United.

But it wasn't the same gripping match, as City smashed six past a sorry QPR side. Sergio Aguero's hatrick and goals from Kolorov, Yaya Toure and David Silva ensured goals galore for the City faithful.

The result meant that QPR were relegated back into the English Championship after just one season in the Premier League, along with Burnley who were also relegated in spite of beating Hull City 1-0.
