Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has claimed that they would never give up in the Premier League title race, despite his side's 1-2 defeat by Liverpool on Sunday.

Philippe Coutinho's late second half stunner helped Liverpool dent City's Premier League title defence with a narrow victory at Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool had led through in the 11th minute through a curling effort from Jordan Henderson. However, Edin Dzeko finished off a slick move to equalise in the 25th minute, the Daily Star reported.

But Brazil midfielder Coutinho capped a fine display with the decisive goal when he struck from 25 yards, which left City suffering a 2-1 loss.

The result has left City five points behind Chelsea having played a game extra, while Liverpool move to fifth.

Pellegrini claimed that City won't give up the title chase, but he did admit that he is concerned about his side after they suffered a big blow in the defence of their crown.

Pellegrini said that he believes City never give up about the title, adding that they must try to improve their play first, and after that try to win their next game. He claimed that one never knows in football what would happen.

The City boss said that it is more difficult when one has less games and one continues with the same points, but added that he doesn't think the team could think about that.

City were outplayed and out-thought at times by Liverpool following on from their defeat by Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Chilean boss claimed that he is concerned about the whole team, adding that it was not their team, insisting that they cannot lose so many balls with the technical players they have.

Pellegrini claimed that that is more important to analyse than the performance of one player, adding that it is more important to think as a team.
