Football Association's charge of spitting at Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has been accepted by Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse, who faces a possible seven-game ban for his part in the incident.

Cisse was involved in the incident, which happened during Manchester's 1-0 win at Newcastle on Wednesday. Evans has yet to respond to the FA after being charged on Thursday.

However, Evans has denied deliberately spitting at Cisse, who had earlier issued a statement apologizing for his actions, the BBC reported.

After the Senegal international accepted the charge, Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley said that both the club and Cisse agree that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable, adding that when one does something wrong one has to front up, admit their mistakes and accept the punishment.

Cisse was proactive in making a full and heartfelt apology, which he did in advance of any notification from the FA regarding this charge. Charnely said that this was something the striker felt strongly about and added that they fully support him in quickly accepting the charge.

The FA charge read that in or around the 38th minute of the game the two players spat at each other and Cisse could receive a ban of up to six matches for the offence after admitting his part in the incident.

Cisse would also have to miss an additional game, having already received a ban this season, the report added.
