Liverpool FC have announced that manager Brendan Rodgers will leave the club with immediate effect. Rodgers, who joined the club in 2012, came closest to Premier League glory in the 2013/14 season, when they finished second in the league. Talking to the club's official website, Principal Owner John W Henry said: “We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Brendan Rodgers for the significant contribution he has made to the club and express our gratitude for his hard work and commitment."

President Mike Gordon has stated: “The search for a new manager is underway and we hope to make an appointment in a decisive and timely manner.”

Just before the news, ESPNFC.com quoted Brendan Rodgers saying:  "I have never felt anything other than secure. That is not being complacent. I was brought here to do a job, I signed a new deal and the owners know it takes time."

Liverpool spent nearly £80 million in the summer as the club brought Christian Benteke, Danny Ings, Roberto Firmino, Nathaniel Clyne and Joe Gomez. However, Rodgers just managed just 4 wins this season, including the victory  on penalties against Carlisle at home in the Capital One Cup.
