Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has described his team's performance on Saturday night as 'best match of the season' despite enduring a narrow 1-0 defeat against Chelsea in their Premier League tie.

Chelsea ended United's six-game winning streak after Eden Hazard netted the decisive goal in the 38th minute at Stamford Bridge. Jose Mourinho's men need to win just two games off their remaining six fixtures to return the title to Stamford Bridge for the first time since 2010. Reflecting on his team's performance, Van Gaal said that he was not frustrated but was very proud of his team instead, the BBC reported.

Despite losing the game, United produced a spirited performance as they had 70.3% of possession as well as 15 shots to Chelsea's seven. The Dutchman said that they played their best match of the season, adding that in football one could lose a match even when they are the better team.

Currently, Chelsea are ten points clear at the top of the table while United stay third on 65 points, one point behind second-placed Arsenal and four above fourth-placed Manchester City.
