Newly appointed England captain Eoin Morgan claims that he received 20 missed calls from national selector James Whitaker, who was trying to give him the role of one-day captaincy so as to lead the team at the World Cup.

Irish swashbuckling middle order batsman was appointed as the team's new captain following a lackluster performance of the team under the captaincy of Alastair Cook, which includes recent 5-2 series defeat against Sri Lanka.

Morgan said that he thought he would better give James back a ring and he said that they would like to offer him the captaincy.

An elated Morgan further said that he was delighted to be asked to lead the team, adding that it was an honour to lead an extremely talented group of guys during a really exciting period, the BBC reported.

Previously, Morgan had captained the team in eight one-day international matches, which resulted in three victories, four defeats and one no-result.

England face Australia and India in a World Cup warm-up one-day series before the start of the 2015 tournament, which is being jointly held by Australia and New Zealand.
