DY Patil Sports Academy had all the titles in Mumbai local cricket barring the prestigious Kanga League. On Sunday, they laid their hands on that too after they drew with New Hind Sporting Cricket Club at the latter's home ground.

They finished on top of the points table with 23 points to emerge winners in the Police Shield (A Division) of the Kanga League.

The Navi Mumbai cricket academy has been a force to reckon with in Mumbai cricket. However, the missing Kanga League trophy despite them playing the tournament for more than a decade kept haunting them.

"We were desperate to win this year," said captain Pravin Tambe, who has been playing for DY Patil since 2004. "We have been trying to win it every season but it did not happen. Eversince I joined, we have been finishing in the top two only to be promoted to the upper division. But this time our patience and hard work finally paid off," said the Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner.

"We have been in the A divison for three years, our main aim from the start was to be there in the top division. Once we got there we started of dreaming to win it one day," added Tambe.

The DY Patil team has been playing cricket five days a week including the Times Shield 'B' Division on weekdays and Kanga on weekends.

"That helped us to stay in the groove. The players knew each other and were up for whatever challenged posed at them. It was our dream to win the title," he added.

The second place in A Divison went to Cricket Club of India with 22 points and Karnataka Sporting Association finished third.

Parkophene Cricketers were the Purshottam Shield (B Division) champions while Dadar Union Sporting Club won the Young Comrade Shield (C Divison). The Salarjung Cricket Tournament (D Division) was won by PJ Hindu Gymkhana while Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana (Cosmopolitan Shield, E Division), Canara Vijay Cricket Club (Mumbai Junior Shield, F Division) and Navi Mumbai Sports Club (Summer Vacation Shield, G Divisiion) emerged champions in their respective divisions.
