World number one Novak Djokovic and Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka, thrashed Marin Cilic and Tomas Berdych, in straight sets respectively, on a day of one-sided matches, at the ATP World Tour Finals on Monday.

Djokovic began his campaign for a third straight title at the O2 Arena, with a 6-1, 6-1 win in 56 minutes, and was joined on top of Group A by Wawrinka, who thrashed Berdych with the same score. The matches required a combined time of one hour and 54 minutes.

Serbia's Djokovic said that both players were favourites in their matches, but added that to win 6-1, 6-1 is something that came as a surprise, The BBC reported.

In light of his own win, the Serb said that it was a 'great performance' and he was hoping he could play this way.

Djokovic is unbeaten at the O2 Arena since 2011, has won his last 27 matches indoors, and went into Monday's encounter with a 10-0 record against Cilic.

Meanwhile, for Berdych, it was the fifth year in a row that he has lost his opening match at the O2 Arena. He said that unfortunately it was his worst match of the whole season, and he kept it for the start in the World Tour Finals.

Berdych said that his game is about hitting the ball nice and clean, and creating something, but added that at the beginning he didn't have that at all, as he hit so many frames.

It was a fifth consecutive victory over Berdych for Wawrinka, who said that playing against the Czech is always 'tough', but added that he can always find a solution.

Berdych only narrowly avoided a 6-0, 6-0 defeat against Djokovic, at Beijing, in October and he endured another humiliation at the hands of Wawrinka in London, the report added.
