World No. 1 Novak Djokovic on Friday survived a scare against 110th-ranked Mischa Zverev, as he fought back after being a set down to reach the Shanghai Masters semi-finals.

Djokovic lost the first set and was then taken to a second-set tie-break as tensions rose at the Qi Zhong Tennis Centre. The defending champion, eventually, came to his own and registered a 3-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 victory against his German opponent.

The Serbian, who avoided what would have been the most humiliating defeat of his season, maintained his record of reaching the semi-finals in all seven visits to the tournament, reported Sport 24. Djokovic will now play Spain's Roberto Bautista in the semi-finals, who defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 6-4 in the last eight-match.

World No. 2 Andy Murray eased past Belgium's David Goffin to enter the last four.  The second seeded Briton thrashed the 11th seeded Belgian 6-2, 6-2.

Murray, who was champion here in 2010-11, will next play either American Jack Sock or France's Gilles Simon in the last four. The Scot has picked up five titles this yearis battling Novak Djokovic to finish year-end as No. 1 in the ATP Rankings.
