Shane Watson is in the news for bowling a couple of outrageously misdirected slower balls against the Perth Scorchers of Australia and the Otago Volts of New Zealand during the T20 Champions League in India.
He is all over the news in the Australian media, where he is being nominated for having bowled the “Worst Delivery in Cricket” ever. What is all the more surprising is that Shane Watson has managed to do it in two consecutive matches.
We decided to pull up a few misdirected deliveries (to put it mildly) from the archives of cricket to let you decide which is the worst ever delivery in the history of the game.
Disclaimer: Not for the weak hearted. ;)
Here you go:
1. Abdul Razzak to Jesse Ryder - Pakistan vs New Zealand (T20 match)
Abdul Razzak came up with this peach of a delivery to start off proceedings against Jesse Ryder of New Zealand in a T20 game. Pakistan ended up losing the game, even after this auspicious start.
2. SIR Ravindra Jadeja to Jonathan Trott - India vs England (Test match)
Yet to be knighted by the Queen but widely regarded for his talent, SIR Ravindra Jadeja could never do any wrong. In this rare display of his full potential, Sir Jadeja tries to fox Jonathan Trott, see what happens next…
3. Phil Tufnell to Craig McMillan – England vs New Zealand (“Hockey” Test match)
Phil Tufnell loses his grip on the ball and delivers a wide one and corner specialist Craig McMillan quickly jumps into action and scores a goal, I mean a boundary. Slightly confusing but this is cricket.
4. Cameroon White to Sachin Tendulkar - India vs Australia (Test Match)
With the master blaster on strike you’re always looking to contain him by bowling a few on his pads, but this one missed the pads of the keeper as well. Don’t miss the one-in-a-million expression on Ricky Ponting’s face.
5. Morne Morkel to Craig Kieswetter – South Africa vs England (T20 match)
As a fast bowler you sometimes miss the release of the ball, resulting in a wide down the leg side. But this is taking things a bit too far, too far down the leg side. In fact, full marks to the camera man for being able to keep the ball in the frame.
Now that you have survived these deliveries, here is an ordinary looking classy delivery.
Ernie Dingo Bowls a Slower One to Greg Ritchie
Let me start by saying that I’ve never seen anyone bowl like this. We have heard of deliveries being bowled from the back of the hand, this one is bowled from the back of the bowlers back itself. See it to believe it…
That was all folks! Do let us know in comments which one was your favourite “Worst Delivery” and do feel free to share your pick of a “Worst Delivery” with us as well.
