David Beckham backs Wayne Rooney to be inspirational England skipper

Former England skipper David Beckham believes that Wayne Rooney has made a great start as the current squad's captain and would be an inspirational leader in the future.

The Manchester United striker was permanent England captain for the first time in Wednesday's win over Norway in which he scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot. He will now lead Roy Hodgson's men into the first Euro 2016 qualifier against Switzerland on Monday.

Beckham, who captained England on 59 occasions, including on Rooney's debut against Australia in 2013, said that young players will look up to the United striker for inspiration, Sport24 reported.

Beckham said that Rooney is one of the most experienced players in the team now, adding that he is now the most respected player in the team.

The former United midfielder said that Rooney is a player who wears his heart on his sleeve, adding that people want to see that passion.

Beckham also said that Rooney is such a great talent, such a great player, people love him, fans love him and it's great to see him with the armband.
