Darryl Duffy's late goal for Salgaocar SC turned a draw to a decent 2-1 win over ten-man Pune FC in the 24th round of the I-league at the Balewadi sports complex, here on Friday.

The Derrick Pereira coached side in the process avenged their home defeat 0-3 in their first leg of this elite League of the country with this win.

This victory saw the Goan side garner three points and the win also enhanced their chances of laying their hands on the trophy, which Pereira could not achieve during his four year tenure with the Pune FC.

Salgaocar (37 points) are just one point behind leaders Bengaluru FC who have 38 points.

Gilbert Oliveira put Salgaocar ahead in the 38th minute. It was a move initiated by Macpherlin Omagbemi Dudu. The Nigerian collected the ball in the striking zone and tapped the ball to the onrushing Oliveira who lobbed it over the advancing Arminder Singh, the Pune FC keeper to the far corner of the net.

However, Mustapha Rahamat (Riga) converted a penalty to score an equaliser in the 56th minute for the home team.

It was Darryl Duffy late strike in the 83rd minute which helped the Goan side strengthen their lead.

In the 52nd minute Gabriel Fernandes was fouled by Brian Mascarenhas and referee Ajit Datta awarded penalty. And as the players were seen arguing with the official, Dhanpal Ganesh punched Salgaocar keeper Karanjit Singh and Ganesh was given the marching order. Reducing the homer side to ten man.
