Sydney: Australian head coach Darren Lehmann has reportedly urged his players to get inspired by the spirit of the legendary Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (Anzac) by visiting famous battlefields in Europe on the way to the Ashes next year.

The Australian squad may make a detour to France near where Australia suffered huge casualties at the Battle of the Somme in 1916 to learn more about the history of their country.

According to News.com.au, Lehmann said that they are looking into getting over to France in between the tour of the West Indies and the Ashes series next year as it would be a great learning curve for the team, himself and the backroom staff, adding that they want to look into a lot of the history-making moments involving the Anzac.

In 2001, Waugh's team detoured to Gallipoli, Turkey while en route to England in 2001, and Lehmann and fast bowler Ryan Harris are ambassadors for Camp Gallipoli, a family event to be held around the country next year to commemorate the centenary of the 1915 landing at Anzac Cove, the report added.
