Cricketer-turned commentator Arun Lal recovering after battling jaw cancer

Cricketer-turned-commentator Arun Lal is suffering from jaw cancer, reports The Hindu. Thankfully after a surgery, he is on the way to recovery.

Currently Arun Lal is recuperating in a Kolkata hospital. He was quoted as saying, “It’s a rare and dangerous cancer. The symptoms were detected in time (in January) before I went through a rigorous treatment process. Thank God, I have been able to hold my place".

The surgery was a nearly 14-hour process where his jaw was replaced. Lal credited the doctors for a fantastic job which has offered him a new lease of life. The prolific commentator who is a common sight especially during Indian matches have been missing owing to this ailment. However, Arun Lal is hopeful that he will be back in the comm box maybe after two months. Apart from playing 16 tests and 13 ODIs, Lal has represented both Delhi and Bengal in the Ranji trophy amassing a massive 6763 runs in the domestic circuit.

Although the news was not known to the outer world, Lal said that many of his close friends reached out to him. One of them was Yuvraj Singh, who himself fought a successful battle against cancer. After the news broke, lot of cricketers and fans have sent their wishes to Arun Lal for speedy recovery. Here's how Harbhajan Singh and VVS Laxman reacted.
