Cricketer Mohammad Kaif, who was one of the linchpins of Sourav Ganguly's Indian squad, may have successfully ducked the bouncers of Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee, but the right-hander's namesake is proving to be a thorn in his flesh at the fag end of his career.

Incidentally, a Twitter user confused the former Indian batsmen with a man accused in the murder of Hindustan Daily’s Siwan bureau chief Rajdev Ranjan. “Never expected this from @MohammadKaif ….. May Bihar Lallo had not done Chara ghotala & used money to educate,” he tweeted.

However, Kaif was quick to clarify that he is not the accused, “I am not the shooter u [you] r [are] referring to.I m [am] training fr [for] the Cricket season ahead wid [with] #Chattisgarh. Verify to karlo yaar.”

The agile sportsman who will turn out for Chattisgarh this Ranji season, then tweeted, "My name is @MohammadKaif but I m not that Sharp Shooter. Me&family getting lot of calls.M playing only with bat&ball."

However, as soon as the suspect in the murder case of journalist Ranjan, surrendered before the Siwan court in connection with an earlier case of extortion, BBC News Hindi again assumed the accused to be the cricketer and tweeted that the ex-cricketer Kaif has surrendered. This infuriated the former India player so much that he replied, "Just for the sake of a catchy headline, all limits have been crossed. Doesn’t anyone read otherwise?"
