Somerset's director of cricket Matthew Maynard has admitted that Craig Kieswetter's eye injury could potentially bring an end to his career.

While playing against Northants last July, Kieswetter broke his nose and damaged his eye socket when a ball went through his helmet.

Maynard said that they were hoping that after he sees the specialist he would have a method of getting his eye back to 100 percent, adding that the feedback they get from would be instrumental, but potentially it could be career-ending, the BBC reported.

The English wicket-keeping batsman is set to travel to Belgium to undergo further assessment with a specialist.

Prior to suffering the injury, Kieswetter had scored 497 runs in the T20 Blast in 2014 and 419 runs in the County Championship.
