Former union minister and ex-president of Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) CP Joshi was tweeting about strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions Monday noon when his aides were busy planning a covert strategy to overthrow serving RCA president Lalit Kumar Modi in Jaipur.

Hours later, Joshi’s Man Friday in the cricketing body and president of Bhilwara district cricket association, Rampal Sharma announced a formal change in guard at the RCA. “Modi who is abroad and Sumendra Tiwari (the secretary) who is in the hospital and other post holders have been relieved of their duties,” Sharma told DNA, adding, “Banks accounts (of RCA) are being seized as we speak now.”

The shock and awe move to have Modi scalped came after 25 of the 33 district associations in RCA reportedly pledged their support in writing to the CP Joshi camp in a hurried meeting convened at the RCA academy on Sunday. The Joshi faction started out as a splinter group that led an uprising against Modi who had called in fresh elections on April 26 to introduce his son Ruchir Modi in his stead. But Joshi proved the proverbial spanner in the works as he gained the numbers to prepare a formidable alliance against Modi. Quite unexpectedly, the elections to RCA were called off on the night of April 22 ahead of the last day of nominations scheduled on April 23.

Lalit Modi camp claimed the elections were called off due to non-alignment of the RCA constitution amended as per Lodha committee guidelines and the Sports Act that government the RCA. But the Joshi camp claimed it as an attempt to subvert the democractic process to elect a new president of the state cricketing body.

On Monday, the camp supporting candidtature of CP Joshi met at a hotel on the outskirts of Jaipur. The meeting chaired by sitting Vice President of RCA Rajendra Singh Rathore and the group claimed that members of more than 18 districts were present in the meeting.

After the meeting, secretary Sumendra Tiwari, treasurer Pawan Goyal and deputy president Mehmood Abdi were relieved from their posts along with Lalit Modi. Rampal Sharma said that Rathore is now the officiating president of RCA.
