Patel, Arun Gandhi and Sachin Dalvi were all kicked out of the association on allegations of financial irregularities. The trio oversaw the renovation of a dressing room at the IPCL Sports Complex Ground. The amount sanctioned for the same was Rs 25 lakh, but the officials overshot the budget by nearly Rs 60 lakh. A five-member committee inquired into the mater and found that Patel and the others didn't follow the right procedure before extracting the extra money.
However, the BCA managing committee meeting wasn't a smooth one. Halfway through the meeting, association president Samarjitsinh Gaekwad "stood up, adjourned the gathering and walked out with a few of his supporters". Undeterred, the others asked a vice-president to occupy the chair and expel Patel, Gandhi and Dalvi.
"The committee presented us with a 600-page report. The 'finding' itself runs over 60 pages. The synopsis is about three pages. It sums up everything. We have rightfully expelled these members. We will now recover the money from them and also file a police case," Snehal Parikh, joint-secretary, BCA, told dna.
He went on, "We gave them enough and more opportunities to present their case. But believe it or not, none of them had the courtesy to even appear before the committee."
When contacted, Patel was all relaxed. "How can they expel us? Didn't the president adjourn the meeting. In fact, let me tell you that the president has assured me that I haven't been expelled," Patel said.
So, does he plan to take the legal route against the association? "Why should I? I know I haven't been suspended. Let them go to court if they want," Patel added.
