In what could be a disastrous news for 10 time Champions League winners Real Madrid, their star striker Cristiano Ronaldo who was nursing an injury, has been ruled out of the first leg semi-final tie against Manchester City.

Lucas Vazques takes his place in the team and comes into the line-up along with Dani Carvajal, Sergio Ramos, Casemiro and Luka Modric as Raphael Varane, Danilo, Mateo Kovacic, Isco and Jese depart from the side.

Manchester City have also made five changes and there is no place for Yaya Toure as he is replaced by Fernandinho. Kevin de Bruyne, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Vincent Kompany also come into a side which beat Stoke City 4-0 as Pablo Zabaleta, Eliaquim Mangala, Aleksandar Kolarov and Kelechi Iheanacho make way.

Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane had earlier said that he expects Ronaldo to be fit for the tie, but the Portuguese who didn't  feature in Saturday's 3-2 win at Rayo Vallecano after sustaining a thigh muscle strain in Madrid's previous game, was kept out of the squad as he couldn't recover in time.

However, Karim Benzema, who also suffered an injury during the Vallecano match, has been included in Zidane's first XI for the Champions League match at the Etihad Stadium.
