You are bound to be happy after scoring a brace in a competitive football match. That, however, wasn't the case with Istehkham Shaikh, who helped St Anthony's High School (Vakola) earn a 2-2 draw against St Xavier's High School (Fort) in an MSSA Under-16 Div II match at Azad Maidan on Saturday.

The reason? The Vakola side needed a win a to confirm their place in the quarterfinals. With two draws and one defeat in the group stage, their progress will depend on the other results.

After the game, Istehkham just stood on the pitch with his head in his hands. A teammate ran towards the 15-year-old and gave him a tight hug. That player was Inzamam Shaikh, Ishtekham's younger brother. "I had to go and hug him. We were a goal down and his brace saw us go 2-1 up. The two of us have always been there for each other. Today was my turn. He just needed that hug," said Inzamam, who's a year junior.

Istehkham, the Std X student knows he could have very well played his last game for the school. "My brace doesn't count for much now. What really matters is that we dropped two points. The only thing we can do now is hope.

That said, Inzamam's gesture was priceless," said Istehkham.

The duo has been part of the school team since the Under-12 level. But it was the first time they were part of the same team. "He'll be done with school in a few months and then it'll only be me in the Under-16 side. There's still a small chance that we can still make it. We're aren't out of it yet," said Inzamam.
