Boxer Vijender Singh ruled out of Asian Games

Tuesday, 26 August 2014 - 3:47pm IST | Place: Mumbai | Agency: Reuters

Leading Indian boxer Vijender Singh has been ruled out of next month's Asian Games due to a hand injury, the Olympic bronze medallist said on Tuesday. Singh, whose middleweight bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics helped raise boxing's profile in India, injured his hand during the Commonwealth Games final in Glasgow.

"It's very disappointing for an athlete. The hand is still not stable. So I have no option but to pull out," the 28-year-old told Reuters, confirming his withdrawal from the regional multi-sports gathering in Incheon, South Korea. (Reporting by Sudipto Ganguly; Editing by John O'Brien)
