In all likelihood the ongoing Australia series is going to be Anil Kumble's last assignment as India's head coach.
After a successful stint as the head coach of the India cricket team, Anil Kumble might be elevated to the post of Team Director, reported The New Indian Express.
The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) is in favour of a major reshuffle in the coaching set-up and in all likelihood the ongoing Australia series is going to be Kumble's last assignment as India's head coach. He is expected to take over the new role by April 14.
The members of COA recently held a fruitful first meeting with Kumble and rest of the Indian cricket team's support staff on the sidelines of the BCCI Awards in Bengaluru. The COA led by former CAG Vinod Rai had a detailed discussion with head coach Kumble and assistant coaches R Sridhar and Sanjay Bangar. Diana Edulji and Ramachandra Guha were the other COA members who were present in the meeting.
Kumble has been asked to prepare a report covering the national team, women's cricket as well as junior cricket. A discussion also took place on the central contracts of the India players and remuneration to the support staff including Bangar and Sridhar, who are seeking a revision in their salaries.
Reportedly COA has given Kumble time to decide on the offer as it would require him to devote more time than what he spends with Virat Kohli and co.
BCCI is also planning to dissolve the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) which features Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly. However, one of these legends might be given the responsibility of handling cricket operations of all BCCI teams if Kumble takes up the Team Director's job. There's also a distant possibility of handing over the head coach's role to India A coach, Rahul Dravid.
