Jagdish Makwana was an unknown figure until the First Open Gujarat Major Ranking Table Tennis Tournament in Ahmedabad earlier this month. But after his upset victory in the youth boys' section, he has been seeded fourth in the Second Major Ranking tournament, which will be played in Bhavnagar from Thursday.

The five-day carnival, which will be held at the Shri Krushnakumarsinhji Town Hall, will witness around 450 paddlers, in various categories, from across the state fighting for glory.

Mahipal Gohil, Jalay Mehta and Ravi Joshi are ahead of Makwana in the second tournament of the season. Makwana had defeated Mahipal before edging out Jalay in the final of the Ahmedabad leg.

The youth girls' division will be led by Nargis Malubhai. If there are no major upsets, then Nargis, Palak Naik and old horses Divya Gohil and Sapna Sharma will make it to the semifinals. Meanwhile, Bhavnagar continued to rule the senior categories. Jignesh Jaiswal and Divya Gohil have got top billing in the men's and women's sections, respectively.
