Earlier, an image emerged on social media that suggested that England and Manchester United star had been hospitalised after being bitten by a jellyfish. However, Manchester United confirmed that the England defender was suffering from a bout of food poisoning.

The official club website posted a message which claimed: “Manchester United can clarify Chris Smalling has had food poisoning during his holiday which resulted in him fainting on Sunday.   The 26-year-old defender was taken to the hospital and is now feeling fine. Smalling is currently on vacation in Bali following his time with England at Euro 2016 before reporting back for pre-season training later this month. Chris would like to thank everyone for their well wishes.”

Smalling was part of England’s team at Euro 2016 which performed dismally and were knocked out the tournament by spirited Iceland in the Round of 16.
