The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has strictly rejected the International Cricket Council (ICC) decision to carry out a World Test Championship that was scheduled to begin in 2019. This decision comes after the ICC called for a two-day working group meeting to discuss the World Test Championship structure before the BCCI opposed the idea.

The world body proposed a nine-plus-three structure to have a four-year Test cricket cycle. But stating the ICC's decision as a 'bluff', the Indian cricket board categorically ruled out the move in order to see no changes being implemented in the Test calendar.

"How can a nine-plus-three structure be proposed in the first place when the ICC Board is yet to ratify Ireland and Afghanistan's full membership status? They (certain ICC board members) are just trying to test the waters and gauge the mood of members. In the process, they're still thinking that a "weak" BCCI may not resist," a BCCI source stated while speaking to the Times Of India.

Previously during the ICC's board meeting in October 2016, the BCCI also rejected the governing body's two-tier Test structure that also received rejections from parties like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. Following the disapproval, the idea of a World Test Championship was formed as a backup plan.

Dismissing the importance of a two-day working group meeting, the BCCI is also confident of garnering enough strength to tackle the proposed policies of the BCCI through a vote count. The Indian board is optimistic about this move working in their way during the upcoming ICC Chief Executive Meeting (CEC) to be scheduled in April.

"What sense does it make to talk right now. We will act when the time comes. Right now, I'd say, wait and watch," a BCCI official said. And before the CEC meeting next month, the parent body's decision of a proposed World Test Championship is not moving ahead currently.
