In what would be a major boost for the female T20 competition, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has cleared the way for the Indian women's team to participate in overseas leagues such as the Women's Big Bash League in Australia and the Women's Super League in England.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the BCCI's women's cricket committee had approved the decision, however, their participation will be subject to the BCCI's approval of their contracts.

The decision is also considered to have come too late for Indian participation in the inaugural edition of the WSL, which starts from July 30 to August 14. The England cricket board has already signed up 18 overseas players for the league.
