BCCI sources have told Zee Media that the board has allowed the wives of Indian cricketers to join the team in Australia. The decision was taking following India's defeat to Australia in the second Test at Brisbane.
Earlier, the BCCI had banned girlfriends of players from accompanying or joining them on overseas tours. The board had also placed restrictions on the duration of stay for wives of cricketers. The new rules came into effect after India's disappointing tour of England when the team lost three straight games after winning the Lord's Test.
However, Virat Kohli need not look forward to being joined by Anushka Sharma. The rule banning girlfriends still remains in place. Those lucky enough to be married, like captain MS Dhoni, R Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay, can expect their wives to join them before the Melbourne Test beginning on the 26th of this month.
