Bayern Munich will sit out their flu-hit star players Arjen Robben and Toni Kroos in Wednesday's Champions League football clash with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Dutch Robben, who only returned after groin surgery in October, just scored twice in Saturday's 4-1 win over Werder Bremenl, Xinhua reported.

"I would have liked to have seen him make the trip. The disappointment for both him and me is great," said Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes.

German player Kroos' absence made it worse to Bayern's midfield since Bastian Schweinsteiger still recovering from a broken collarbone sustained Nov 3.

Robben and Kroos, however, were not the only flu victims of the team as forward Thomas Mueller, midfielder Danijel Pranjic, striker Mario Gomez and Belgian defender Daniel Van Buyten are all showing flu-like symptoms.

"We need to see how they feel," said Heynckes.

Bayern are sure of a top finish in Group A with 13 points ahead of Wednesday's match.

The third-placed City, however, now have seven points, must win at their Etihad Stadium and hope bottom side Villarreal secure at least a draw at home to Napoli.
