A club match in Australia's Victoria state swa a touching tribute paid towards the departed young batsman Philip Hughes.
The Courier Mail reports that Shaun McArthur, who plays for and captains the Ballarat side named Haddon, was on his way to break a club record in a match against rivals VRI Delacombe. He was batting on 220, when he abruptly retired, after glancing at the scoreboard.
Haddon's score stood at 408, which also happened to be the test number of Philip Hughes for Australia. Incidentally, VRI Delacombe had bowled 63 overs, which was also Hughes' score when he was struck by the bouncer from Sean Abbott that caused his injury and subsequent death.
A Haddon club spokesman said that all the players on the pitch went up and shook McArthur's hand. The spokesman also said that the club's innings- and the overs bowled- was entirely by chance, as it is not possible to plan scores in the standard of club cricket.
Hughes' death has caused '63 not out' to be a preferred way of paying tribute to him. Club cricketers in Australia have been encouraged to retire with the score of 63.
