A shoulder injury to wicket-keeper Brad Haddin added to Australia's woes as Pakistan consolidated their position to reach 405 for three wickets at lunch on the second day of the second and final test in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
Mitchell Johnson and his pace team mates toiled without much success on the lifeless track at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, while the spinners struggled against their nimble-footed opponents, who lost only one wicket in a session that yielded 101 runs.
Younus Khan lived a charmed life to be unbeaten on 141 while skipper Misbah-ul-Haq was on 55 at the break as Pakistan, having won the opening test in Dubai, remained on course for their first test series win over Australia in 20 years.
Mitchell Starc claimed the lone wicket of the session when Azhar Ali (109) tickled a delivery and Australia's stop-gap keeper David Warner dived to his left to take a smart catch.
Warner had earlier dropped Younus at gully off Mitchell Johnson in the third over of the day.
Younus, who hit his third century in as many innings, was also lucky when he edged Peter Siddle and the ball fell just short of Haddin, who dived and landed awkwardly on his shoulder.
Haddin carried on for two more overs before leaving the field and Warner donned the keeper's gloves.
