Arsenal has slipped further behind leaders Chelsea in the Premier League following a shocking 1-0 defeat by Stoke City, which continued their superb run of home results against the league's leading teams, on Saturday at the Britannia Stadium.

Chelsea's victory over Fulham allowed them to increase the gap at the top to four points, while Liverpool's win at Southampton saw Brendan Rodgers's side move above Arsenal and into second.

According to the BBC, although the game remained goalless after a series of wasted chances, however, the hosts managed to scrape a win after Jonathan Walters, who had missed four of his previous six penalties, converted his spot-kick with 14 minutes remaining after Laurent Koscielny had handled.

Arsenal failed to sparkle in a robust encounter in which Olivier Giroud was given some particularly stern treatment, with Charlie Adam fortunate to escape punishment for one second-half challenge, the report added.
