Mahendra Singh Dhoni wowed his fans when he decided to join his Jharkhand team mates in a train journey from Ranchi to Kolkata to play a domestic match at the Eden Gardens. The Jharkhand team management was prudent enough to reserve an AC two tier berth for the players.

But no such luck for East Bengal players including captain Arnab Mondal who had to return to Kolkata in a general compartment of the Janasatabdi Express plying from Bhubaneswar to Howrah in the aftermath of defeat against arch rivals Mohun Bagan in the Federation Cup semi-final.

East Bengal team flew down from Cuttack to  Bhubaneswar, and then took the train. However, they were forced to travel in general compartment.

In the same bogey, there were some Mohun Bagan fans who were completely surprised to see players from their rival camp. Since the players did not have any reservation. some had to remain standing, while some chose to sit on their luggage near the door.

Keeping aside rivalry, the fans offered footballers their seats and even captured selfie with Arnab Mondal. In another picture we find Mohammad Rafique sitting on his kit bag near the door.

While cricketers travel in business class and even footballers of ISL clubs have the good fortune of travelling via flight, these national heroes who have represented India at the international stage are being treated in the worst possible manner. Indeed, a dark day for Indian domestic football.
