Former India Test captain Anil Kumble achieved two milestones on Friday - he turned 44 and joined Twitter. As part of his first day on Twitter, he was seen re-tweeting his birthday wishes from fans. He has already garnered over 7600 followers and his first tweet was re-tweeted over 330 times.

Sachin Tendulkar also wished the former bowler on his birthday and welcomed him to Twitter.

Anil Kumble made his first-class debut at the age of 19, and took 619 wickets in Test cricket. He represented the Indian Test team in 132 Test matches and was responsible for many of India's victories.

As part of the ODI team in early 1990, his best performances was six for 12 against the West Indies in the Hero Cup Final in 1993. Against Pakistan at Delhi in 1999, Kumble dismissed all 10 batsmen in Pakistan's second innings, taking 10/74 and becoming only the second player after England's Jim Laker to achieve this feat.

Kumble was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour in 2005. After playing for 18 years, he announced his retirement from international cricket in November 2008 after a dismal last year, ending with 619 wickets at 29. In October 2012, Kumble was appointed the chairman of International Cricket Council (ICC)'s cricket committee.

In January 2013, Kumble accepted the role of chief mentor with the Mumbai Indians.
