The Supreme Court-appointed committee of administrators was forced to swing into action on Monday after Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) former joint secretary Amitabh Choudhary tried to barge into the senior selection committee meeting in the Capital.

A day after SC told BCCI counsel that Amitabh and former treasurer Anirudh Choudhary are only allowed to attend one-off meeting of International Cricket Council (ICC), Jharkhand's former IPS officer once again refused to abide by court's directions. The SC has stated that only BCCI CEO Rahul Johri is authorised to take care of day-to-day work of the board in consultation with the four-member committee.

As a result of Amitabh's action, the selection meeting was delayed for over two hours before Vinod Rai-led administrative panel categorically told Johri that "Choudhary is not allowed inside the meeting room". The panel instructed Johri to convene the selection meeting via video conferencing from Mumbai.

It has been reliably been learnt that Choudhary deliberately created this confusion after getting instructions from his former BCCI bosses. "Choudhary asked the committee that BCCI doesn't want CEO to continue. But the committee simply turned down his suggestion and asked him to stay away from meeting," a source told DNA.

Choudhary reached hotel early and emphasised on convening the selection meeting as "eligible BCCI official". As three of the administrative panel members — Diana Edulji and Vikram Limaye along with Rai — were meeting at the same time in Mumbai to chalk out the future strategy, CEO Johri informed the committee about this latest fiasco.

Both BCCI's representatives along with Limaye are slated to leave for Dubai on Tuesday night to attend the ICC meeting. However, it would be interesting to see who amongst the three would eventually be allowed to be in the meeting on February 2.

Audit monster

Choudhary's move has been seen as a desperate attempt by former BCCI top bosses to derail the process of implementation of SC orders. Going by an insiders' account, the former board officials, who are controlling almost all the state associations, are worried about Deloitte internal audit report lying with the Justice Lodha panel.

DNA has reported on how widespread financial irregularities have been pointed out in many state units. It was under then president Shashank Manohar in 2015 that BCCI had hired Deloitte under its 'project transformation' to look into the financial aspects of states. Eventually, Deloitte filed 4,800 pages of reports on various associations and which could now be taken up by the new four-member panel to nail the former officials.

And Delhi High Court ordered on Monday to conduct the audit of Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) from 2012 to 2015, all these former bosses are fearing that various courts across India could follow the suit and order the similar auditing of accounts.
